I don't go the cinema that often - in fact, last time it was to see Spiderman II - but tonight I went to see Sin City with a friend. (77 words)

David Caddick has written a very powerful article on the concept that Disaster Recovery is Dead!
Being an Enterprise Architect the whole idea of DR is foremost in ones mind when designing system so what David is purposes is more than a little intriguing.
After reading David’s very clear article I understand that the point of ‘failing over’ from one site to another does actually sound archaic. Anyway, I enjoyed it so I won’t steal any more of Dave’s thunder … go read!

I know it's such a blog cliche - hey, check out my whacky referral logs! -
but I just thought I'd post these two amusing search queries which have been directing
people to this website:
the
program of Jonathan the haircut
I don't really know what to make of this one. Was this some kind of kids' TV program
you remember from your childhood? Have you considered that the probability of
a program about an anthropomorphosised and aparrently sentient haircut actually
being commissioned, filmed and broadcast is fairly slim? Perhaps you dreamt
it?
why
did Christopher Ecclestone quit?
This one is easier: because, although Chris is probably one of the best Doctors ever,
and will be a personal hero of mine from now until evermore, he would have actually
become quite annoying if he'd stuck around any longer and I think he knew that. For
what it's worth, David Tennant was utterley brilliant in Casanova and I'm
sure that everything is going to turn out just fine.

Earlier I posted to the newsgroup a description of using Alex
Feinman's Tapi
Wrapper to retrieve the IMEI of the phone device. When I checked again, the specific
required method is not included in the wrapper, however as Alex has made the line
handles accessible it's easy to tag functionality onto the library without re-inventing
the wheel. I put together a VB example to P/Invoke the lineGetGeneralInfo method to
retrieve information about the phone device. If you use this on a Smartphone device
you may find it doesn't work - this is because many Smartphone devices require signing
to access many of the TAPI methods. I tested this on a HTC Phone Edition device

If you looked through my York photos that I posted back in March you may rememberthis one of York College. I noted that the building was about to be demolished in the description. (260 words, 1 images)

Just registered for the PDC 2005.
Probably will be travelling over on the Saturday to enjoy the pre-conference seminars. I am sure my head will start overloading by the middle of the week, SQL 2005, SSIS, SQLCLR, XQuery, WinFS, Report builder, Longhorn, Avalon and more.

If you haven't seen Reflector for .Net then go and check it out now: http://www.aisto.com/roeder/dotnet/ - it is a great tool.
"Reflector is a class browser for .NET components. It supports assembly and namespace views, type and member search, XML documentation, call and callee graphs, IL, Visual Basic, Delphi and C# decompiler, dependency trees, base type and derived type hierarchies and resource viewers."
I've been using Reflector for some time, but I have only just come across the add-ins you can use to extend it (including a diff tool, dependency graphs, and VS integration). Have a look at them here:

Are you going to Tech-Ed? Well there will be some VBUG representatives at VBUG 2005
and if you want to come and see the latest 247 project in action, come along to the
weFly247 booth.
This year, Tech-Ed looks like it's going to be a significant event, mainly because
of the new products that are coming along. We are looking forward to a great event.
We will look forward to seeing you there.

Unfortunately I am removing the ability to add comments to posts in this blog. I have received hundreds of spam posting over the last week, and this is the best way to stop that. You can still of course send me a message re the normal contact pages.

I have been quiet of late and there are two reasons.
1) My wife is back from here travels and it’s really good weather here. So we've been out and about seeing friends and family.
2) When I have been in front of my computer I’ve been playing the recently released Battlefield 2 demo on-line to death. I know Tariq would be proud!
Now Rich and Howard, Battlefield 2 isn’t coming out for the Mac but it is very true that when Apple move to Intel, games will be coming out for Mac a whole darn lot quicker and I for one am very much looking forward to that. A bit of competition is good for the punters. But don’t get carried away on the hype. Apple have a lot to do to distinguish themselves from being another computer manufacturer making Pentium machines and the space that Apple will be aiming for is currently occupied by companies such as Sony (who already have machines like the VGCRA304P.CEK which is undeniably good), Scan , Alienware ... shall I go on ? These companies all know about being cool is the way to get customers which is Apples primary trick. So Apple has their work cut out for them and do you think these companies are going to roll over when Apple enters their space? Apple are lucky they have loyalty, but that loyalty is expectant so Apple must continue to deliver.
As for security? It is a fallacy that any computer running whatever platform is ‘more’ secure than another. We all have to be equally vigilant because compliancy is the first mistake to letting the bad guy win. Every platform has malware now and this is a global problem. We have to tackle it together because as things become more standard and interoperability becomes even more wide spread the greater the number of machines effected will increase exponentially. Just imagine for a second a successful virus outbreak and the virus was written in Java. Apple, Windows and Linux would be equally affected. I know Java is very good security wise and the likelihood of this happening is slim but I think this illustrates my point.
So, as for being jealous Howard? No not at all. I enjoy my preference just as you do yours. If we all were the same it would be a dull world, so I’m going back to Battlefield 2 demo on my AMD 64 Venice 3500+ (939 ready for dual core!) with Geforce 6800 Ultra graphics card, 1.5Gb Corsair RAM, not forgetting my Audigy sound system and thats just my Windows box (yes I'm showing off :p). Oh and not a light tube or spoiler in sight.(hmm but it is black and silver so it's a tiny bit chav :-))
